According to Kilimanjaro National Park data, the average age of those who successfully climb Kilimanjaro is 37 years old. Most of our clients are in their 30’s and 40’s, though we have guided children as young as 6 and seniors as old as 89.

At Ultimate Kilimanjaro, we lead clients of all ages to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. Based on an unofficial survey we conducted, here are the overall demographics of people who have climbed Kilimanjaro.

  • 71% of climbers are male.
  • 29% of climbers are female.
  • 45% of climbers are between 31 and 40 years old.
  • 22% of climbers are between 41 and 50 years old.
  • 17% of climbers are between 21 and 30 years old.
  • 4% of climbers are between 61 and 70 years old.
  • 1% of climbers are less than 20 years old.

This data shows that Mount Kilimanjaro is accessible to people of all ages, from the young at heart and those in their golden years. Irrespective of age, climbing Kilimanjaro provides a viable challenge. However, specific considerations must be taken into account for very young and very old climbers.

Those on the ends of the age spectrum may find the mountain considerably more difficult. Children may lack the physical development to hike for long periods of time while seniors may lack the strength, stamina and recovery for multiday hiking. So, extra precautions should be taken in preparation and safety for these climbers.

Our Youngest and Oldest Clients

The youngest clients we have ever had were two brothers, age 6 and 8. Our oldest client, Anne Lorimor, broke the world record for the oldest person to climb Kilimanjaro, conquering the summit at an incredible age 89.
