Fully Staffed Climbs

Our climbs are fully staffed with approximately one guide per two clients. This is the best way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. We strive to create the optimal conditions for a safe, successful climb. Having the right number of personnel to manage the group size creates an organized team on the mountain, but more importantly ensures proper attention for each and every climber.

Focused on Safety

Ultimate Kilimanjaro® is focused on safety, understanding that our top priority is to keep you out of harm’s way. Our guides perform regular health checks on all climbers, and they are prepared to prevent, detect and treat altitude sickness. We include rescue oxygen on every climb and have evacuation plans in place in case of emergencies.

Quality Camping Gear

We only use high quality camping equipment to keep climbers as comfortable as possible while outdoors. Our Mountain Hardwear tents are warm, waterproof, and roomy – and perfectly suited for the rigors of Kilimanjaro. We provide thick foam sleeping pads for all clients. Mountain Hardwear Lamina sleeping bags, rated to -20F/-29C, are available for rental.

Delicious Meals

All food and drink is provided on the mountain. Our mountain chefs prepare delicious meals with fresh, local ingredients. These meals are nutritious and calorie dense, specifically designed to sustain the energy of climbers. An ample amount of clean water is provided so climbers stay well hydrated throughout the trek. We also cater to special dietary requirements.

Best Routes

Ultimate Kilimanjaro® specializes on Kilimanjaro’s best routes. With many routes to choose from, we avoid trails that are very crowded, less scenic, and have poor acclimatization profiles. We operate primarily on routes that offer a combination of high success rates, scenic beauty and low foot traffic. This ensures our clients have the best chance of reaching the summit and have a good time doing it.

Group and Private Climbs

For those who are traveling alone or simply want the company of others, we have scheduled group climbs on our favorite routes. These climbs avoid the rainy seasons, include acclimatization days, and are limited to 14 climbers. We can also organize private climbs on any route, for any size party, on any dates.

Porter Care

We take porter welfare very seriously and do our best to ensure our staff is treated well. As a partner company of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP), we comply with all established guidelines on porter wages and welfare. We pay our porters more than the standard compensation. Our porters have proper food and shelter, and their loads are restricted to reasonable weight limits.

Leave No Trace

We are a member of Leave No Trace, an organization dedicated to enjoying the outdoors responsibly. Our guides and porters practice Leave No Trace ethics on the mountain so that everyone can enjoy a clean, litter free environment on one of Africa’s most majestic landscapes.

Everything was handled with professionalism, care, and attention to detail, and the entire team made our Kilimanjaro climb something we will never forget. A very special mention has to go to Andrew Young, our lead guide. Andrew was outstanding throughout the entire climb. He was incredibly professional, calm, knowledgeable, and precise with every recommendation he gave us. He knew exactly when to push us, when to slow us down, and how to manage each person in the group individually. We always felt that we were in extremely capable hands. What impressed us most was the way Andrew handled every member of the group. He understood that everyone reacts differently to the altitude and the physical and mental challenges of Kilimanjaro, and he adapted perfectly to each of us. His experience, judgment, patience, and encouragement made an enormous difference. We reached the summit, and I genuinely believe we did it because of Andrew. His guidance and leadership were exceptional, particularly during the toughest moments of the climb. Great experience with Ultimate Kilimanjaro - highly recommended Our group had a great experience with Ultimate Kilimanjaro during our 8-day Lemosho route kilimanjaro hike. Our guides were Filbert, Richard, Leonard, and Ewalt. I would recommend them all to others. They were professional, experienced, courteous, encouraging, and truly were interested in our success. Beyond our lead guides, the entire staff was very positive and enjoyable. Emmanuel, our meal server, and Gaston, our camp lead really stood out. The food was good and plentiful - thanks to our cook. An Exceptional Kilimanjaro Experience — Highly Recommended I would like to give my highest recommendation to Ultimate Kilimanjaro for the outstanding support, professionalism, and care they provided throughout our incredible nine-day climb from August 21–29, 2026. On August 20, we were met by our lead guide, Andrew Mathias, who immediately made us feel welcome and prepared. Andrew took the time to thoroughly explain everything we would encounter during the climb, answered all of our questions, and even took us on a walking tour of Moshi. His friendliness, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm were incredibly reassuring and provided a great sense of comfort as we prepared for what was, for us, a challenging and somewhat intimidating adventure. When we began our climb on August 21, we met the rest of our guide team: Andrew, MSafari, Gabriel, and Justin. From the very beginning and throughout all nine days, every one of them was cheerful, professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. They constantly encouraged us, monitored our well-being, and made our safety their highest priority. Their experience and dedication gave us tremendous confidence throughout the journey. Our support team was equally exceptional. Every morning, we were awakened by Innocent, our main waiter, whose pleasant voice and cheerful knock on our tent door was a wonderful way to start each day. He always made sure we were awake and checked on how we had slept before we headed to the mess tent for breakfast. There, we were treated to outstanding meals prepared by August, our chef. Every meal throughout the entire climb was delicious, plentiful, and remarkably varied considering the remote environment in which we were traveling. We were consistently impressed by the quality of the food, and we certainly never went hungry! One of the small touches that made a huge difference was receiving our nightly “teddy bear” — a hot-water bottle we placed in our tent to help keep us warm. After long days on the mountain, climbing into a cold tent and having that warm bottle waiting for us was an incredible comfort and something we looked forward to every evening. Each day when we returned to camp, we were greeted by Gaston, who would carefully brush the dust from our shoes, gaiters, pants, and backpacks. His cheerful personality and friendly smile were always a welcome sight after a long day on the trail. It was another example of the incredible attention to detail shown by the entire Ultimate Kilimanjaro team. Our group of eight successfully reached our goal, and we could not have done it without the dedication, encouragement, and hard work of our guides and porters. I like to think of the porters as “mountain soldiers,” which is a very fitting description of the incredible effort they put forth every single day. They worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make our journey possible, often carrying tremendous loads while ensuring that we had everything we needed. We chose the 9 day Northern Circuit route, starting on August 21st.  There are some experiences in life that you know you will remember forever. Standing on the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro was one of those experiences for me, and the incredible team at Ultimate Kilimanjaro made that dream even more meaningful than I could have imagined. I honestly cannot express how grateful I was for the professionalism, safety, dedication, and genuine kindness I experienced from the moment I arrived in Tanzania until the moment they took me back to the airport. I used Ultimate Kilimanjaro for my Kilimanjaro climb, safari, and airport transportation, and every part of my trip was handled flawlessly. What truly set them apart was the people. I never felt like I was simply another client. I felt genuinely cared for, encouraged, and supported every single day. 🏔️ THE KILIMANJARO TEAM A very special shout-out to our incredible guide team. Andrew, our lead guide, was absolutely phenomenal. His knowledge, leadership, patience, and calm confidence gave me reassurance throughout the entire climb. He knew when to push me, when to slow me down, and how to keep me focused when the mountain became difficult. Gabriel, Justin, and Safari, the assistant guides, were equally incredible. Their encouragement, smiles, humor, and constant attention to my safety made such a difference. And David, who joined us for our summit night, was an incredible addition to the team. Summit night was one of the hardest and most unforgettable experiences of my life. Having someone beside me who was so supportive and encouraging helped me keep putting one foot in front of the other until we finally reached Uhuru Peak. 🏔️ I absolutely cannot leave out the porters, our mountain soldiers! These men are beyond incredible. They worked tirelessly behind the scenes, breaking down our camps after we left, carrying everything up/down the mountain, and then setting everything back up at our next campsite before we arrived. They did so much of the work that made our journey possible, and they did it with smiles and incredible attitudes. They deserve so much recognition and appreciation. ❤️ AUGUST - OUR INCREDIBLE CHEF August… WOW. The food throughout the entire climb was amazing. Every breakfast, lunch, and dinner was something we looked forward to. I honestly couldn’t believe the meals he was able to prepare for us in the middle of the mountain. But August did something that I will never forget. After all 8 of us successfully reached the summit, August actually baked us a cake to celebrate! We had just accomplished something incredibly difficult and reached the summit of Kilimanjaro, and when we returned to camp, our chef had made us a cake to congratulate us. It was such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture, and it perfectly captured the kind of people this team is. They didn’t just take care of our physical needs. They celebrated our accomplishments with us. OUR SAFARI — TONY Our experience didn’t end when we came down from the mountain. Tony, our safari guide, was absolutely fantastic. He was knowledgeable, personable, patient, and incredibly determined to make our safari something special. And he delivered! His knowledge of the animals and the landscape made the safari so much more than simply driving around looking for wildlife. He knew where to go, what to look for, and was constantly watching and listening for opportunities to give us the best possible experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide to experience the incredible wildlife of Tanzania with. 🚐 DAMIAN — GETTING US HOME And finally, a special thank-you to Damian, who was our driver to the airport. After an exhausting, exhilarating, and absolutely unforgettable adventure, it was comforting to have someone so professional, friendly, and dependable get us safely to the airport. Every breakfast, lunch, and dinner was something we looked forward to. I honestly couldn’t believe the meals he was able to prepare for us in the middle of the mountain. But August did something that I will never forget. After all 8 of us successfully reached the summit, August actually baked us a cake to celebrate! We had just accomplished something incredibly difficult and reached the summit of Kilimanjaro, and when we returned to camp, our chef had made us a cake to congratulate us. It was such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture, and it perfectly captured the kind of people this team is. They didn’t just take care of our physical needs. They celebrated our accomplishments with us. OUR SAFARI — TONY Our experience didn’t end when we came down from the mountain. Tony, our safari guide, was absolutely fantastic. He was knowledgeable, personable, patient, and incredibly determined to make our safari something special. And he delivered! His knowledge of the animals and the landscape made the safari so much more than simply driving around looking for wildlife. He knew where to go, what to look for, and was constantly watching and listening for opportunities to give us the best possible experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide to experience the incredible wildlife of Tanzania with. 🚐 DAMIAN — GETTING US HOME And finally, a special thank-you to Damian, who was our driver to the airport. They felt like people who had shared something incredibly special with us. Reaching the summit was emotional. There were moments of exhaustion, doubt, laughter, tears, and incredible joy. When I finally stood at Uhuru Peak, looking out over Africa, it was difficult to put into words what I was feeling. But one thing I knew for certain was that I couldn’t have asked for a better team to get me there. Ultimate Kilimanjaro gave me far more than a successful summit. Ultimate Kilimanjaro delivered the ultimate Kilimanjaro experience We had a simply extraordinary experience with Ultimate Kilimanjaro. From inquiry through booking and implementation, their communication was clear and they delivered on every promise they made. We were six women and we felt safe and educated every step of the way. There were other organizations on the mountain we experienced as less respectful (of tourists and other guides/porters) and so the value and benefit we derived from our crew was clear. We utilized the nine-day Northern Circuit route and saw beautiful views on the least crowded route up Kilimanjaro. The team was respectful, generous, and thought of everything to make us comfortable including dusting off our pants and boots before we got in our tents. The price for our trip was perfectly reasonable for what we received in exchange including all meals, private transfers to and from the airport, hotel stays on either side of the trek, a private toilet on the trek and detailed briefings and concern for our safety at every step. A First Class Operator!! My friend & I did a ton of research for our Kili trip and are so happy with Ultimate Kilimanjaro! Every aspect of the climb was outstanding - guides, porters, cooks, food and even the toilet setup! Based on our open schedule, Shawn recommended the 9 day northern circuit, which gave us a great tour of the mountain, helped with acclimatization, and allowed us to get to know our fellow climbers, guides and porters. All 9 in our group made the summit! Shawn even set my friend & I up on a two day safari after the climb to Tarangire and Ngorogoro Crater NP. Beyond AMAZING! Prior to our trip, we thoroughly researched many of the top rated Kili guide companies. Based on our research, we selected Ultimate Kilimanjaro, and had rather high expectations. Now that we've completed the trip, I can without hesitation, say that our expectations were exceeded in every regard. The pre-trip communications and guidance were excellent. The guides were phenomenal... knowledgable, kind, and warm. There overriding goal was to get everyone to the summit safely, whilst having a lot of fun. The food was out of this world. I don't know how they do it! All the equipment was of top quality and in great condition. The porters were the unsung heroes... always going above and beyond to help the team. Ultimate Kilimanjaro I just can’t say enough good things. It started with hours of researching guide companies to hike Kilimanjaro. My contact with Ultimate was Sean and he patiently answered my many (many) questions. When the trip began, we felt prepared and we felt SAFE! The guides, chefs, and porters were so professional and we would not have reached the summit and returned without them! This was the trip of a lifetime for my wife’s 45th birthday and Ultimate exceeded my every expectation! My only “concern” is that their recommended tip is far too low (I doubled it)! There are many companies offering Kilimanjaro trekking, so choosing the right one is really important — especially when it comes to safety, organization and the quality of support you receive along the way. We were a group of 14 people from different countries, taking on the 8-day Lemosho Route. From the very beginning, everything was extremely well organized. Our group was led by Filbert and Deus Maro, together with four fantastic guides: Amani, Godfrey, Leonard and Tuma. And what a team they were! Professional, experienced, incredibly supportive and genuinely caring. They constantly looked after us, encouraged us and made sure that everyone felt safe and comfortable. Their attitude created an amazing atmosphere within the group and turned 8 days of trekking into a real team adventure. The result was something truly special: every single person in our group made it to the summit — a 100% success rate! Standing on the top of Kilimanjaro together, after everything we had been through, was an incredibly emotional and unforgettable moment. I also have to mention the food — surprisingly delicious and varied throughout the entire trek. The tents and mattresses were of very good quality, communication with the team was excellent, and we received plenty of interesting information about Kilimanjaro National Park, its wildlife, nature and the environment around us.
