Airport Transfers
Kilimanjaro International Airport is approximately 25 miles (40 km) from Moshi. The drive time is typically 50 minutes. Airport transfers from can be pre-booked through us. Your driver will meet you outside the arrivals area. He will be wearing an Ultimate Kilimanjaro® shirt and holding a sign with your name.
Rental sleeping bags and trekking poles will be distributed at this time.
Room Types
All rooms are private with en-suite bathrooms. Standard rooms are double occupancy (two beds). Single rooms are available for an additional fee.
Pre-Climb Briefing
Your pre-climb briefing takes place at the hotel. This occurs in the late afternoon or early evening (usually 5pm) on the day before your climb. If you arrive later, we will conduct a personal trip briefing for you the next morning.
During the trip briefing, you will meet your guides and fellow climbers. We will discuss the trip itinerary, altitude sickness, acclimatization guidelines, and tipping procedures. We will also review the gear list. If you have any questions about the suitability of your gear, this is the time to ask.
Luggage Storage During the Climb
Excess luggage can be stored at the hotel while you are on the mountain. Additionally, your passport and extra cash will be itemized, logged, and locked in a safe. Do not bring tip money on the mountain.
Power and Connectivity
Tanzania uses Type D and Type G outlets. Voltage is 230V. Bring a universal adapter. Wifi is available at the hotel, though speeds may be slower than what you are used to. Power outages can occur occasionally. Most hotels have backup generators.
Laundry
Laundry service is available at the hotel for an additional charge. This is useful after your descent. However, the laundry staff is not always on duty in the evening. So if you would like your clothes cleaned when you get off the mountain, arrange it immediately upon returning to the hotel. If you shower, relax, and eat dinner first, the service window may be closed for the night.
Food and Dining
Hotels have on-site restaurants. Breakfast is included, while lunch and dinner are available for purchase.
Note that meal service in Tanzania operates at a different pace. It is common for food to take 30-40 minutes to arrive, especially during busy periods. Plan accordingly by placing your order early.
Payment Methods
The Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the official legal tender for all domestic transactions. Regulations state that goods and services within the country must be priced and paid for in Tanzanian Shillings. Credit cards are accepted with a surcharge.
Moshi
Moshi is the gateway town for those climbing Kilimanjaro. It sits at 2,700 feet (831 meters) on the southern slopes of the mountain. The town blends tourism with agriculture, especially coffee and banana farming. It is smaller and calmer than larger Tanzanian cities, with a manageable center, local markets, cafés, and essential services. Most visitors stay briefly, but Moshi provides everything needed to prepare for or recover from a climb.
